Clement Lefebvre from the Mint development team has announced the release of Linux Mint 7 code named Gloria. Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based allocation that aims to be user friendly and provide a more complete out-of-the-box experience by including support for DVD playback, Java, plug-ins and media codecs.

A new feature built into mintMenu – Suggestions, lets users rapidly filter the list of installed applications with a easy search. An addition to mint install; featured applications, a list of popular applications that are not currently installed on the system, allows users to install the most popular applications in single go. The upload manager includes an updated graphical user interfaceand now supports Secure Copy (SCP) and the SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).

Linux Mint also includes a Wubi based installer for Windows called mint4win. When the LiveCD is inserted, the mint4win application runs automatically and allows Windows users to easily install Linux Mint to an existing partition, without modification. Windows multi-boot is also set up for the user. To un-install, all a user needs to do is use the Windows Add/Remove Applications tool to remove mint4win to restore the system to its previous state.
